Woah, ah, mercy, mercy me Ah, things ain't what they used to be (ain't what they used to be) Where did all the blue skies go? Poison is the wind that blows From the north and south and east Woah mercy, mercy me, yeah Ah, things ain't what they used to be (ain't what they used to be) Oil wasted on the ocean and upon our seas Fish full of mercury Oh Jesus, yeah, mercy, mercy me, ah Ah, things ain't what they used to be (ain't what they used to be) Radiation underground and in the sky Animals and birds who live nearby are dying Hey, mercy, mercy me, oh Hey, things ain't what they used to be What about this overcrowded land? How much more abuse from man can she stand? Oh, na, na, na Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Hey, ooh, woo

about

During the early 90s period, many aspects of life changed for Chieli & George. Contemporary - later known as smooth - jazz radio was riding high. George and I scuffled a bit on the direction of the band. Simply said, he wanted to go into an R & B/funky direction and I fought him on this. At first, I wanted to remain true to our world-fusion roots, a sound we evolved
considerably over the first 10 years. I also felt his percussion presence would disappear, in view of the fact the music arranging/production trends were leaning towards drum machines and programmed parts. This rift in direction persisted through the production of 2 more CDs: Catwalk, and our final collaboration, Body Language. I didn’t realize this at the time, but we were only 2 years away from ending our musical relationship. Ironically, the disagreements and struggles resulted in artistic growth – as it always does...with enthusiasm. Some of our most beautiful work can be found on those 2 CDs.

We had fantastic success with radio: we were named the most-played contemporary jazz group, and achieved multiple #1 songs on the charts. It was wonderful, and best of all, unexpected!
